Found Feather & Heart Stone

Sometimes when I'm walking things jump out at me and I have to pick them up! Like these two objects, a beautiful white feather and a stone that is in a heart shape.  They were found separately but brought together as they always should have been and painted with a soft pastel abstract style background.

Kestrel in a Mirror

 

The Kestrel is the first bird I ever fell in love with. As a child I was always obsessed with birds of prey and painted and drew them so often. My paintings now tend to be of smaller birds but this one is an exception. Originally a larger piece, I experimented with various props to see what sort of results I could get. Using a small vanity mirror here shows this Kestrel admiring itself. But there is also something strange about it. Doesn't it seem as though the bird in the mirror is different? I thought so, giving this painting a Dorian Grey feeling. Perhaps it is true that old loves never age! I hope you enjoy this painting as much as I do :))

Kingfisher Nebula

 

This Kingfisher Nebula was a very early piece that began my bird 'Nebula' series of paintings.

This inspiration for this one perhaps derived from some beautiful street art of a Kingfisher that just appeared near my home one day. I cannot be sure of that but they are such elusive and beautiful birds so it was perhaps inevitable that I would attempt it one day.

Blackbird Nebula

 

This Blackbird Nebula painting is a special piece since it marked the beginning of a new style of my paintings in soft pastels. It was painted very freely and was inspired from a resident Blackbird who would regularly be singing on the rooftops near me at around 2am! I loved to hear him then, when it was dark and the streets were quiet and felt it as a clarion call to push on with my artwork.

I loved painting this one, especially the rapid long finger strokes that became his tail feathers. At that time I had no thoughts of creating bird 'nebula' pieces but so it was and there have been many since. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do :)))

Cat in the Flowers

 

This painting was inspired by a neighbours very naughty and very fluffy grey and white cat who would frequently visit our house for food and treats.  One day I found him hiding in amongst the flowers possibly waiting to pounce on birds or mice!

Goldcrests Riding Rainbow

Goldcrests Riding Rainbow began life as a soft pastel painting in 2018. It was inspired from a visit to Sheffield Botanical Gardens with a friend. We were sat on a bench there when she commented that a goldcrest was sitting on a branch behind us - so close to me, just behind my ear!

You can see the original pastel painting on my instagram page (@thecosmicbirds) but I decided in 2020 to try painting the scene in acrylics and oil pastels. The left goldcrest was completed then and the idea to make a triptych scene came in 2021 where I completed the middle and right sided goldcrest.

Goldcrests Riding Rainbow is housed on 20cm x 20cm canvas board (1.5cm depth). It was painted with acrylics and sennelier oil pastels. It has been sprayed with Sennelier Oil Pastel fixative and received 3 coats of Liquitex satin varnish. The Cosmic Birds stamp of authentication is on the rear of each canvas board.

Each canvas board will be wrapped individually for protection, boxed, and sent with first class delivery.
